Gishwati-Mukura national park is the newest national park located in the north-western part of Rwanda the land of a thousand hills and close to Lake Kivu.


Gishwati -Mukura national park is blessed with two separate forests that is the larger Gishwati and small Mukura that covers 34 square kilometers and a buffer zone.


Gishwati -Mukura national park is home to over 20 chimpanzees alongside other primates such as L’Hoest’s and blue monkeys, golden monkeys, 163 bird species at Mukura and 323 bird species in the Gishwati area among the tree species in the Albertine Rift valley endemic.
