Rwenzori Mountains are also known as the "mountain of the moon." Mountain Rwenzori National Park is situated within the Mountain Rwenzori area in southwestern Uganda. Mountain Rwenzori is located in the East African Rift Valley and shares a border with the Democratic Republic of the Congo along the Virunga National Park.

The Rwenzori Mountains are among the highest mountains in Africa, standing up to 16,700 feet above sea level. Mount Rwenzori's highest peaks stand above the clouds, and they're snowcapped throughout the year. The Rwenzori mountain ranges are compared to the Alps because they are always covered in glaciers.

The Rwenzori Mountains are one of the sources of the world’s longest river, the Nile. Margherita Peak is Mount Rwenzori's highest peak, making it Africa's third highest mountain. Mount Stanley, the Mountain Rwenzori's twin peak, is still within the Mountain Rwenzori National Park. Mountain Rwenzori's 4th and 5th highest peaks are Mount Speke and Mount Baker.

Rwenzori Mountains National Park is a protected area and a UNESCO World Heritage Site covering approximately 1000 sq. km. It cuts across three districts: Kasese, Kabarole, and Bundibudyo. Rwenzori Mountains National park is most famous for its beautiful plant life accompanied by waterfalls, glaciers, and other unique mountainous vegetation types.
