Rushaga sector located in the southern part of Bwindi and is among the four sectors of Bwindi Impenetrable forest National Park in Kisoro district. Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National is home to approximately 400 mountain Gorillas which are more than half of the total world endangered mountain gorillas.
Rushaga sector of Bwindi is having the largest number of mountain gorilla families compared to other sectors with three or fewer gorilla families thus Rushaga sector is one of the best regions in Bwindi for mountain gorilla trekking and mountain gorilla habituation experience. Rushaga mountain gorilla families include Busingye mountain gorilla family, Nshongi gorilla family, Mishaya gorilla family, Bweza gorilla family, and Kungye gorilla family.
Rushaga sector has a high number of habituated gorilla families compared to other sectors of Bwindi, Uganda wildlife authority issue out 40 mountain gorilla permits per day are sold in this region as compared to other sectors, therefore travelers have higher chances of getting these gorilla permits.
However, travelers are advised to book early enough for gorilla permits, at least three months prior to their travel dates of trekking and one may suggest a particular gorilla family they would like to trek because each gorilla family is in different areas of Rushaga,
