Detailed Itinerary of 4 Days Double Gorilla Trekking Safari in Rwanda

Day 1: Transfer from Kigali - Volcanoes National Park

Our guide/ driver will pick you up from your hotel at 8:30 am in Kigali and your day starts with a visit to the genocide memorial site on your 4 Days Double Gorilla Trekking Safari in Rwanda.

 

Afterward depart for a 2-hour drive to Musanze, the second largest town in Rwanda, with its stunning backdrop of five volcanic mountains – The Virungas. On reaching Musanze, you will visit the Twin Lakes of Burera and Ruhondo. 

 

These Magnificent twin lakes of Bulera and Ruhondo and its Swamp Rugezi are the excellent photogenic, serene and scenic places for Bird watching activity. Moreover, Rugezi swamp is one of the most seven important birding areas IBAs) in Rwanda. In the evening, you will visit the Dian Fossey museum.

Day 2: First Mountain Gorilla Tracking & Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village

On the second day of your 4 Days double gorilla trek in Rwanda, walk up and have an early breakfast and drive to the park headquarter at Kinigi for briefing and start your gorilla trekking adventure into the deep forests of Volcanoes national park.

 

Trekking takes between 2 to 8 hours depending on the movement of gorillas and physical fitness of the trekkers. After encountering gorillas, spend a full hour with them and later descend to the starting point to pick your certificates and drive back to the lodge for lunch and relaxation.

 

In the evening, go for a cultural tour to Iby’Iwacu village for an exceptional cultural experience. Come back to the lodge for diner and overnight.

Day 3: Second Gorilla Tracking in Volcanoes National Park

Have breakfast and drive to the park headquarters for another briefing in the morning to start your second gorilla tracking experience. You will be allocated to a different gorilla family to track. 

 

After briefing, start off with trekking along the paths in the bamboo forests, it is an amazing activity where it can take between 2 to 8 hours to track the mountain gorillas. 

 

When you meet the gorillas face to face you will watch them jumping from branch to branch, feed, play among other things; Only 1 hour is given to trekkers to watch the gentle giants. You will also see buffaloes, monkeys, birds, and elephants through the forests.

Day 4: Volcanoes National Park - Kigali

After the two days of gorilla tracking, you need a long rest. Wake up and have breakfast at your own time but also prepare to check out and get ready for the journey back to Kigali.
