Gombe national park is a truly wild destination in Tanzania. Gombe National Park's nature was valued in 1943 after it was designated by the government as a game reserve. Gombe National Park became popular after the research that was conducted by Dr. Jane Goodall in 1960, which is among the longest-running studies of primate species worldwide. Gombe National Park is situated 16 km to the north of Kigoma Town along the shores of Lake Tanganyika, the world's second-deepest lake, in western Tanzania.

 

How to get there

Travelers can drive, schedule, or take a charter flight from Mwanza, Dar es Salaam, and Arusha; take a fast train from Dar es Salaam; or use a ferry along the shores of Lake Tanganyika from Zambia or Burundi to Kigoma town. To access Gombe, travelers must take a boat from Kigoma.
