Gorilla Habituation Experience in Rushaga

Being with a mountain gorilla family as it is being habituated is an amazing experience that is unique in Uganda. Travelers can only have this opportunity with researchers in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park in Uganda for four hours during a gorilla habitat experience in the Rushaga sector. Two family groups are currently habituated, which means they are getting accustomed to human interaction and won't flee while people are following them or travelers can opt for a normal gorilla trekking in the remaining three sector namely Buhoma sector, Ruhija sector, and Nkuringo sector.

Mountain Bike Rides in the Buhoma Sector

In the Buhoma region of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park, there is a community support initiative called Ride 4 a Woman offering guided cycling tours and mountain bike rentals within the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest.

With a guide, travelers may even ride a bike along the Village Walk. Rides into the forest, including the Ivy River Trail, are available, as well as bike rides dedicated to birdwatching. There is enough to see along the road or path on an average bike ride that lasts three hours or more.

The people who reside in the Buhoma area are on the edge of Bwindi Forest, which allows tourists to take a three-hour cultural walk through the village. A pleasant and informed guide who is familiar with the customs and culture of the area leads tourists on the village walk.

Tourists learn how locals create handicrafts like the most elaborately patterned baskets, sample beer made from bananas, visit a distillery producing the region's Waragi Gin from bananas, speak with a traditional healer, and discover what can be extracted from the old forest and used to treat various illnesses. To mention a few, visit a school, observe the cultivation and harvesting of local produce, prepare meals over an open flame or charcoal, and interact with the Batwa Pygmy population while they dance for you. Bird watching

Uganda's oldest forest has a variety of habitats, making it an ideal place for a wide variety of bird species. Of the 350-known species, 23 are endemic.

The months of March, May, and October to November has the most intense rainfall. Therefore, for the majority of people, the best times to visit Bwindi are in June, July, August, and September as well as from December to February, which coincides with the dry season in most other parts of Uganda.
