Elephant Plains Lodge is close to the Kikorongo River, where the plains converge with the crystal-clear water of the river. Chimpanzee Trekking in Kyambura Gorge

Trekking chimpanzees in the African jungle, as they swing from tree branches within the canopy, is exhilarating in nature. Kyambura Gorge chimps cross and scamper on the trees above the beautiful gorge, and travelers must cross the river using natural bridges in order to trek chimps. Kyambura Gorge chimpanzee trekking lasts from between 2–3 hours; descending to the steep slope gorge and crossing through the log bridges over the river needs some level of fitness.

Chimpanzee trekking encounters can also be done in the nearby Kalinzu Forest, which is a reserved forest that is located just 30 minutes’ drive from the Kyambura Gorge Lodge. Kalinzu Forest protects a community of approximately 40 habituated chimpanzees.

Lion Monitoring in Queen Elizabeth

Lion monitoring in Queen Elizabeth National Park offers a unique chance to participate in the lion monitoring project. Tourists can collect survey data while on Queen Elizabeth National Park game drives and submit it to the Kyambura Lion Monitoring Team. During Lion monitoring, travelers can record using the GPS of the safari vehicles and take specific rare photos of the lions that you spot on your game drive.

Boat Cruise

The Kazinga Channel is a 32-kilometer connecting Uganda’s beautiful lakes, Kazinga channel is rich in wildlife. Boat cruises start from Mweya Safari Lodge which is just about an hour’s drive via Queen Elizabeth National Park from Kyambura Gorge Lodge) and Kazinga channel boat cruise last from 3-4 hours. The boat trip provides a wonderful opportunity to take beautiful photos, view many animals that come to cool off at the shorers edge, including lions, hippos, buffalo, elephants, giraffes,and leopards.

Lion Research Safari

Join a group of local scientific researchers on their daily game drive in Queen Elizabeth National Park to record and locate the behavior of a lion pride they are studying. Lion research safari is best done in the morning hours.

Kyambura Wetland Walk

Kyambura Wetland is a secured 45 acres located south of the Kyambura Gorge Lodge. The wetland was previously used as an illegal brickwork, but now it's rapidly taken back to its natural state. Kyambura Wetland attracts more than 200 bird species, mammals, and primates.

The best time to explore Queen Elizabeth National Park for wildlife spotting and chimpanzee trekking is from June to September and December to February, although game drives and wildlife safaris can be done throughout the year. Queen Elizabeth National Park is located on the great rift valley floor in the southwestern part of Uganda.
