Buhoma bird species include the African goshawk, Jameson’s antipecker, yellow-fronted canary, red-headed bluebill, short-tailed warblers, Ruwenzori batis, barred long-tailed cuckoo, dusky twin spot, blue-headed sunbird, great blue turacos, and African blue flycatcher.

Gorilla trekking in the Buhoma sector can be organized at any time of the year, but the dry season is the ideal time to visit. The driest months are either December through February (the shortest dry months) or June through September (the longest dry months of the year). Traveling for gorilla trekking and hiking is best done in the dry season.
