Sanctuary Gorilla Forest Camp has certified tented accommodation with eight elegant private rooms and luxurious safari tents classically set on the forest’s misty slopes and ready to be sold.

Sanctuary Gorilla Camp is furnished and decorated with mahogany floorboards and private porches, as well as local artifacts, to create a true African setting in the accommodations. Their tents have nice-looking queen-sized beds and large, deep, 24/7-running bathtubs that are perfectly positioned so clients can look toward the forest canopy.

The Buhoma sector is set in the northern region of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park; the Buhoma sector was the first sector in Bwindi where mountain gorillas were habituated in 1993.  Buhoma is the most famous and the most visited sector of Bwindi, with its oldest gorilla family called Mubare, and other families include the Habinyanja gorilla family, the Rushegura gorilla family, and the Katwe gorilla families. The main activity in the Buhoma sector is gorilla trekking; however, there are a variety of other activities to be done in the Buhoma sector of the Bwindi Impenetrable.

Batwa Cultural Experience

The Batwa cultural experience is done by one of the Batwa's experienced guides who give tourists an opportunity to learn more about the Batwa's traditional forest way of life in Bwindi Forest, which used to historically be their home.  You enjoy their traditional dances and Stone Age practices, such as making traditional fire using a stick, how they used to gather fruits, and hunting skills.

Participate in Gorilla Health and Research

Gorilla health and research is done at Gorilla Conservation Camp, which is managed by Public Health. This project trains Bwindi forest park staff and local community volunteers about human-gorilla conflict resolution teams in monitoring gorilla health. The gorilla health and research project has helped in boosting the gorilla conservation programs in Bwindi.

Visiting Ride 4 a Woman for cultural experiences

While you are in Buhoma, visit Ride 4 a Woman, which is a community project where tourists can learn how to cook the local traditional dishes of the Bakiga tribe and enjoy the fruits with the community in a dining hall with an open deck in the misty hills of Bwindi Forest.

Nature walk

The Buhoma sector nature walk is conducted in Bwindi forest.  Nature walk is an exciting activity to do after mountain gorilla trekking, which gives tourists an opportunity to know more about tree species and wildlife species in the forest.  The Nkuringo nature walk trail allows travelers to visit the River Ivi, which is the most common nature walk trail.

Safari to Queen Elizabeth National Park Ishasha and Mweya

The Buhoma sector is closely located to Queen Elizabeth National Park; after or before your gorilla trek, you can be able to visit Queen Elizabeth National Park for wildlife viewing and wild game safaris in Mweya or in the Ishasha sector.

Birding

Bird watching in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is rated among the best spots in Uganda; Bwindi protects more than 350 species. Bird watching takes place along the main trekking trails, such as the Buhoma Waterfall Trail and along the bamboo zone.

Local community visit

Local community visits offer insights into the lives of the Bakiga tribe and Batwa pygmy people residing near Bwindi forest. Other activities in the Buhoma sector include mountain biking, yoga at the lodge, and volunteering in the local community schools and projects.

Gorilla trekking in the Buhoma sector of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest can be done throughout the year; it's important to note that Bwindi Forest is a tropical rainforest and may experience rain at any time. But the best time to track gorillas is from June through September and December through February. However, if you happen to travel between March and May and November, it’s okay.
