Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is the most popular choice for many tourists since it protects a greater population of mountain gorillas, is better located for fly-in gorilla trekking safaris, and has a has a better range of accommodation options. 

Which park you will tour depends on your travel plans and the time you have available to do gorilla trekking. There is no price difference in gorilla trekking permits or chances of spotting across the two gorilla trekking parks.

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park are situated in the southwestern part of Uganda, near the border of Uganda and Rwanda. Many of Uganda's safari destinations are situated in the southwest. This makes it easy to combine any savannah safari with mountain gorilla trekking to come up with a single itinerary bursting with once-in-a-lifetime experiences.

The best time to see mountain gorillas in Uganda takes place during the dry seasons of December to February and again from June to August. During these dry months, the forest hiking trails are drier and not slippery. The dry season is the best time for wildlife viewing in national parks. However, the dry season is also known as the peak trekking season, so mountain gorilla permits are in high demand, and we advise tourists to book gorilla trekking trips in advance.
